Unix 201. Advanced Unix for Bioinformatics

Unix is the platform of choice for large-scale Bioinformatics operations. Among other things, Unix 201 describes work-flow operations in a typical high-throughput sequencing center - a fundamental aspect of large-scale sequencing that controls how sequence data is stored, distributed and processed in these centers - and, the biology of the sequencing process itself. Unix 201 can be taken in combination with Perl 201.

Training at your convenience anytime, anywhere...

    Courses & Programs

Bioinformatics is a cross-disciplinary field and there is a need to provide cross-functional training to professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds. In order to make Bioinformatics training accessible to everyone in a convenient form, we have designed web-based courses that can be taken at your convenience and completed as per individual schedules in a self-paced manner. Our courses are built gradually from the ground up and therefore can be done by professionals from diverse backgrounds. We currently have students from US, Europe and Asia who are biologists, physicians and software engineers with a BS, MS, MBA, MD or Ph.D.

We use a functional problem-solving approach in our teaching. In the words of one of our students, "I whole heartedly support the PerlSource teaching methodology. I have always found that learning things in an application context is the fastest way to acquire a significant understanding of the subject. I also believe that reading important journal papers and thinking about the research problems therein is vastly superior to being led by the hand through a textbook.".

    WELCOME TO PERLSOURCE.NET

Enabing biomedical R&D with the power of bioinformatics, Perl & Unix...

    The Biomedical Information Age

The science and practice of medicine has undergone a fundamental change as a result of large-scale genome projects that led to the sequencing of a number of important genomes, including human and several mammalian, animal, plant and microbial genomes in the last 5 years. Ground-breaking innovations in discrete and separate domains and convergence of technologies from disparate fields are the driving factors behind the advancements we see in biomedical research.

PerlSource Informatics is positioned at the confluence of biology, medicine and information technology and was established to combine deep domain knowledge of biomedical sciences, genomics and discovery research with industry standard software engineering and design principles.

Our main objectives are to -

§ create practical, useful tools for the scientific community in the context of real-life, real-value biomedical problems that researchers face on a routine basis

§ provide customized and skills-based cross-disciplinary training to life scientists and computer scientists needed to acquire a firm understanding of the basic, underlying principles of each domain (molecular biology and information science)

§ provide industry and academic labs with specialized research, data analysis, management and consulting services to enhance R&D productivity
